Original Lyrics
“There’s nothing baby
Truth of the night”
Voice
Walkin’ in sunshine 夜も朝も Everyday
Everyday
Voice
Walkin’ in sunshine 夜も朝も Everyday
Everyday
Walkin’ in sunshine
Walkin’ in sunshine
Walkin’ in sunshine
Walkin’ in sunshine
Walkin’ in sunshine
Walkin’ in sunshine
Walkin’ in sunshine
Romanized Lyrics

Translated Lyrics
“There’s nothing baby
Truth of the night”
The diary that I kept writing
The memories of jeering, suffering in the end
Locked away in the infinite sun
The voice that the too skinny Mona Lisa calls out in
Says “Throw that immitation pleasure awa right now”
Walkin’ in sunshine, morning and night, everyday
Walkin’ in sunshine, as I smile, everyday
Play that song from back then
So that you can relax around me
You don’t need those midnight thrills anymore
So let me burn them up
In the blazing sun……
The voice that the blind Venus calls out in
Says “Seek telepathy in the lonely sky”
Walkin’ in sunshine, morning and night, everyday
Walkin’ in sunshine, as I smile, everyday
Walkin’ in sunshine, please let me
Walkin’ in sunshine, get close to the sun…..
Walkin’ in sunshine, that faded dress
Walkin’ in sunshine, the tears that just won’t stop
Walkin’ in sunshine, and everyday kindness
Walkin’ in sunshine, leave them all beyond
Walkin’ in sunshine, without stopping……
Notes
Walkin’ In Sunshine is far and away the low point of this album. Everything that was not very lyrically interesting so far on Night Snails has at least been musically interesting or catchy. This song isn’t intereting in either of those ways, and is the type of stripped down ballad that really doesn’t work well for Yemon at all. Nothing is really happening here musically, and lyrically there’s barely an interesting phrase to be had. With the exception of Hang Onto Yourself from Bunched Birth (which I still think is slightly worse than this song, but not by much), I don’t think we’ve seen a more bland set of lyrics from Yoshii than this. This is still very early in his writing career, but it’s a very good thing that he didn’t really write too many ballads that felt this way. It works for some musicians, just not for him at all. It even manages to bring up annoying qualities in his voice that I feel like wouldn’t otherwise be there, or at least be very noticeable.
Though we’ll never know if it was an intentional decision to put this at the end of the album or not, I think it was a lesser crime to put it at the end (even though it makes for a poor closure for the album) than to have shoved it somewhere in the middle and risk losing too much momentum on the album. This song has never appeared on any recorded concert, and I’d like to think that’s because they realized it just wasn’t a very good song. The only interesting thing to mention is the prominent female vocal part near the end of the song that’s more up in the mix than the regularly used female backup vocals typically are. We can only assume that this is either Shinobu Fujita or Mikako Tsuchiya, both of whom provided the female vocal parts on Bunched Birth as well.
