Notes
Though the lyrics literally contain the word “miss” in the line that has “saitei no miss” in it, I think it’s meant to be a popular Japanese shortening of the word “mistake”, as opposed to the “miss” that would be used to refer to a woman. It could have a double meaning, but I’m choosing to interpret it as “mistake”. This is somewhat supported by the later occurrence of “Fry tonight”, which is obviously meant to be “Fly tonight”.
This song seems to have been a favorite during their indie days, as there’s a good amount of footage and accounts of it being played at concerts. They even did an acoustic version of it at a yearly event called Natsukagawa Folk Jamboree, though only a small bit of footage of it was released on a 2016 career spanning TV special that aired shortly after the reunion tour began. Yemon seems to have largely left it behind, as it’s only made an occasional appearance at a Mekuro Uroko concert (concerts for the expressed purpose of playing their older music).
Sleepless Imagination is a good song that has some not too great lyrics, but manages to make up for them by being so catchy. It fits in line with the type of song that an up and coming glam rock group would write, and one that a club going audience would enjoy. Plus there’s something fun about seeing Yoshii break out the tambourine and dance along!
