This song was a holdover from Yemon’s indie days. In fact the song structure was a tiny bit different: There wasn’t any whistling at the beginning. Also partway through the chorus just after the guitar solo, the song would stop and Yoshii would do some crowd interaction. There aren’t many recorded performances of this song from their indie days, but the one I could find (a YouTube link can be found below) features Yoshii saying “I love youuu!”, prompting the crowd to cheer and say it back to him. The intro is then played again before launching back into the chorus. Yoshii has also said that he used to shout “Fuck me tte itte!” (“Say “fuck me!””) to the crowd as well.
This is a criminally under appreciated song from this album that I wish would have gotten more attention. For me, this is very close to being the best non-ballad song on the album (Romantist Taste being the song that challenges it). Though it’s still a bit immature compared to his later writing, this song works so much better lyrically than all of the songs we’ve heard so far on this album. And that’s probably because it isn’t as based around weird English phrases. They’re more accents here, and they work much better that way. They even taught me a new word that I shouldn’t really be surprised that Yoshii knew: Pyrolagnia (sexual stimulation or gratification from watching or setting fires).
There are some turns of phrase that are very effective. “attakai futokoro” is a very unique way to describe someone as being rich (as opposed to the normal “kane mochi”), and read literally it looks more like “warm bosomed” or “warm pocketed”. A few different lyrics also suggest that the speaker here may be a hermaphrodite: Having a treasure in their womb, but also having an “exquisite red banana”. Also the kissing and touching mentioned seems to be pretty equal opportunity between both rich women and men. They may also be a little resentful of their situation too, judging by them saying that their body is “god’s greatest prank”.
The choruses are the best parts, largely due to the fast delivery of lines that are really mouthfuls. That delivery really emphasizes the feeling of sort of slowly going insane that runs through the song too. I originally thought that a lot of lines in the choruses were Yoshii complaining about the life of a touring band with “Just keep going from shitty town to shitty town forever”, and then growing resentful of the audience as a result (see most of the contents of the last chorus). It’s possible that may be the case, but I think it’s more likely that the speaker is actually some kind of traveling entertainer (much like Yoshii’s own father was) that performs in some weird or seedy places that have caused them to be resentful about what they do. And consequently they engage in sex acts on the side. Their situation within their own body and life makes them feel like they have some sort of neurosis.
The music also goes just as far to creating this feeling within the song as the lyrics do, and is one of two songs on that album that was written by both Yoshii and Emma (Hideaki Kikuchi). It’s much less of a traditional sounding rock song than a lot of the other tracks on Night Snails, which makes for a nice break in the album.
I can only find one recording in which this song was performed live after their indie days: Mekara Uroko 9 on December 28th 1998. In fact it featured quite a few other songs from Night Snails and Plastic Boogie as well. And though no official recordings exist of it, it was also a part of the set list on the 2017 fan club exclusive tour “Super FC Party 2017 -Drastic Holiday-“.
